Do Vegans NEED Supplements? (Science Explained)

Do vegans need to take supplements? This is a question I’m asked all the time, and in today’s video I’m going to breakdown what the science says. Although a wholesome plant based diet has been proven to be the healthiest diet in the world, most vegans would benefit from taking a few supplements to look and feel their best.

  1. A few things to add:

Omnivores are also deficient in vitamin D, vitamin E, fiber , magnesium, potassium and a few other nutrients. B12 is supplemented to animal feed and injected to some animals too. Vitamin d is supplemented to milk. iodine, folate and other nutrients are supplemented by law to salt and flour. This is so meat eaters dont think they dont need supplements

  2. For the vegans/vegetarians out there, I recommend the Ionic Liquid iron supplement from Triquetra health. I just tried it today and it gave me a noticeable energy boost. It doesn’t contain glycerine which is common in most liquid supplements and can cause drowsiness.
Before I was taking the iron bisglycinate form because it’s supposed to be well absorbed, but most people don’t know it can make you tired since it’s binded to glycine. I also take 1,000 mg of Methylcobolamin as well as 1,000 mcg of Adenosylcobolamin. Both are different forms of B12 but equally necessary and serve their own functions. I also take 2,000 IU of D3 with breakfast along with Benfotiamine (B1), both vitamins absorb best with fat and are often low in meat free diets. 1000 mg of Calcium Citrate before bed because calcium is sedating, as well as 1500 mcg of Vitamin A with dinner because it helps with sleep and is fat soluble. I use Country Life Dry Vitamin A and cut the tablet in half. Most vitamin A supplements are way too high and become toxic is you take 3,000 mcg every day for months.

  3. if you have to take a supplement, that means there is something missing from your diet. meaning that we are meant to eat the food that contain what ever is missing, for example, B12 means that we should eat meat instead of taking a supplement.
