  1. So biologically, I don’t see the point in taking collagen or putting it on your skin. And i’m going to try to explain why.
Why is the direct consumption of collagen not used to form only collagen? Because collagen is a macromolecule, a protein with a huge helix structure, Its biological value is very low since it has very few essential amino acids.
What happens when you consume it? Such a large molecule doesn’t pass from the intestine into the bloodstream; it couldn’t pass through the intestinal membranes. That’s why we have different types of enzymes called Proteases. These break down the very long chains of amino acids (which are the monomers that make up proteins). Amino acids can be absorbed.
But what happened to collagen? It’s gone. In its place are thousands of nonessential amino acids (meaning our body can synthesize them on its own and we don’t need to consume them in order to survive). Our bodies will use these amino acids for everything from growing toenails to forming eyelashes. In short, collagen is a protein, so it’s obviously going to help form tissue, such as skin or joints, but the same can be done by the protein in milk, eggs, or chickpeas. (Even better since they are much more complete proteins, with all or practically all of essential aminos)

And why don’t collagen creams or topical treatments make sense either? Very simple. As I said, collagen is a very large protein. It would be foolish to believe that a cream with collagen It would pass through the collagen structures of our skin and magically join together. Physically, it can’t pass through a physical barrier as impenetrable as the skin. But don’t worry, it has been proven that there are components that stimulate the production of collagen in our skin cells! (I’m not a dermatologist but I seem to remember it was vitamin C and retinol) So not all is lost, I know that if you do not know the metabolic and biological process that molecules go through before being absorbed by our organism, it may make sense to think that taking a molecule literally translates to having more of it in your body. That’s why it’s easy to fool people with marketing claims and influencers with perfect skin advertising it. I hope this makes sense. I’m sorry, but a balanced diet and an active lifestyle free from chronic stress will always be the key, no matter how much it hurts not to have a magic pill (it hurts me first). Take care 🫶

  2. Dr. faye thank you so much for this Video I absolutely would love to see you in person if I could! What text do you recommend that we can do we know what vitamin deficiency we are lacking from?
